Prepared to Defend – Drill of the Day: Reloaded
One of the best features of Byrna handheld launchers, like the SD or LE, is the ability to change magazines without affecting the CO₂ cartridge. This greatly increases the number of rounds you can fire from a single cartridge during an encounter.
If you’ve already fired five rounds or need to switch projectiles, seconds matter, so efficiency is key.
Drill Setup:
🔹 Distance: 5 to 7 yards from the target
🔹 Equipment: Byrna SD or LE launcher, two magazines
🔹 Ammo: Load two training rounds into each magazine (Pro Training Projectiles recommended)
Drill Execution:
1️⃣ Start in a high ready position.
2️⃣ On "Go", fire two rounds.
3️⃣ Eject the empty magazine and insert the second magazine.
4️⃣ Fire two more rounds.
Pro Tips for Efficiency:
✅ Keep the launcher in your field of vision – this ensures your eyes stay on target and prevents unnecessary time spent reacquiring.
✅ Grip the magazine properly – place your finger along the front spine and your fingertip on the ejector bar to guide smooth insertion.
✅ Use a shot timer – push your speed, but never at the cost of accuracy.
Train early, train often, and be prepared to defend!
