If They Only Had a Byrna: Oakland Tourists Continually Robbed At Airport Gas Station

In February of this year, a Texas family visiting California was filling up their rental car at this 76 gas station before returning it when they were robbed by several men. A closer look into this particular gas station’s history revealed that this was just one of a large string of robberies occurring here and also revealed that this fact is widely known by residents. It is believed that the suspects are targeting outbound tourists as they are in a hurry to get to the airport.

While police are aware of the incidents and have increased patrols, the criminals just wait for police to leave the area before resuming the attacks.

If they only had a Byrna… these tourists would have had an effective means to defend themselves that is legal in all 50 states, including California. Decades of historical evidence tell us that in the case of crimes of opportunity such as this one, assailants are looking for an easy target and in a vast number of instances, when they are presented with any form of resistance they abort their attack.

It is also important to remember that the average response time for police across the country to emergency calls is over 5 minutes; which means in most cases YOU must be your own first responder. So having an effective means to provide that protection at a moment’s notice that can be carried anyway is essential to the safety of you and your family.
